Amal’s new poetry collection, You Engraved Torah in My Eyes, has just been published. The collection follows Amal’s tradition of expertly mixing art and politics to speak a powerful message which will resonate for generations.

A new narrative and a daring step towards a serious interfaith dialogue between Islam and Judaism, You Engraved Torah in My Eyes continues Amal’s tradition of expertly blending art and politics to engage a serious message. The poetry seeks to encourage the art & culture of public apology, a process which begins with this apology to Iraqi Jews for the wrongdoing done to them by the Iraqi state, especially since the exodus of the 1950’s onwards.

نعم انا ابنة العراق الجريح المعافى بحب اهله

لم أشأ ان اكتب عن نشاط لي ولكن طلب الآخرين للحديث عن التكريم الذي تلقيته قبل ايام في دبي#درع_التميز_الذهبي
للمرأة في العالم العربي

دعيت واقترحت للمنظمين ( السيدة لينا مكرزل من لبنان رئيسة المجلس)، ان يكون محور دور المرأة في مكافحة التطرّف من ضمن محاور الموتمر وفعلا كان موجودا وكنت انا من وقع علي الاختيار لتقديم كلمة حول هذا الموضوع الذي اليوم حروب العالم في ساحة اوطاننا تحت شعار مكافحة والقضاء على التطرّف المتمثل بداعش

في يومين اثنين اليوم الاول قدمت مداخلة سريعة اعترضها مدير الجلسة وطلب مني عدم الابتعاد عن هدف الملتقى وشعاره :- المرأة شريك في المسؤولية الاجتماعية والتنمية وكذلك السلم الاهلي

قلت:- لايمكن ان نرمي المشاكل وتعلقها فوق شماعة الاخر داعش لم تأت بجديد داعش اعتمدت نصوصا فقهية وطبقتها اذا نحن أمامنا فرصة ذهبية لاصلاح كافة المدارس الفقهية المدارس التي تكفر الزواج بالايزيدية ( عودوا الى كتب المجلسي وهو كتاب معتمد لدى الشيعة )، كذلك المدارس السنية التي يغلب عليها جانب التعصب خاصة المذهب الحنبلي
اكملت المناهج في العراق توصف الأديان الاخرى بالكفار فردت علي احدى الحاضرات وكذبتني ( في اليوم الثاني قدمت الوثيقة وهي كتب التربية الاسلامية
فزمن النظر والعمل بثقافة اهل الذمة انتهى نحن في زمن المواطنة
لم يسمحوا لي بان اكمل
تقدمت عندي العين السيناتور هيفاء النجار من الاْردن وحييتني وقالت لي سيدات نحن معك قلت الذي لا نستطيع قوله فنحن مسيحيون ثم اتفقت معي الوزيرة السابقة من الكويت ورئيسة الجامعة المفتوحة د موضي وقبلها التي قادت حملة التضامن مع العراق الكويتية فاطمة العكروكة هي وشقيقاتها هدى ومنى ثم الفنانة جاهدة وهبة التي نشرت كلمتها في موقعي والشيخة الدكتورة هند القاسمي ووو
ثم جاء اليوم الثاني يوم مداخلتي وكانت عبارة عن باور بوينت ( طلب مني مدير الجلسة وهو من الاْردن ان لا أتطرق الى أسباب التطرّف قلت كيف تريدني الذهاب الى طرح الحلول دون وصف أسباب العلة ؟ فاستمريت في مداخلتي كانت مجزرة سبايكر حاضرة تقابلها بطولة الشهيدة امية وأيقونة الأمهات ام قُصي ونساء حلبجة وأميرة السلام نادية مراد وموقف نساء العراق من مسودة القانون الجعفري ( شكرًا د غادة العاملي ) بتزويدنا بالصور المشرقة للمرأة العراقية وكذلك دور اول شاعرة معروفة بالعالم انخدوانا أميرة سومر ودور الفن في مواجهة العنف وتحدي العراقيين لمشروع الطوائف ودور المعرفة في الخروج من مرحلة الانحطاط الفكري الذي نعيشه في العالم العربي فأشرت الى مبادرة الشيخ محمد بن مكتوم وكيف ان مئات آلاف الكتب التي صرفت عليها الآلاف من الدولارات هي حبيسة المخازن فاقترحت توزيعها وإهدائها الى المكتبات التي خربتها الحروب وصلت الى فكرة صوتنا وإعلان المواطن العابر لكل الهويات صحافة الجوال كسرت فرضية احتكا ر الاعلام بيد اهل المال والسلطة وحينما بدأت اتحدث عن فكرة مركز جوال للتشافي بالتراحم والذهاب الى ابعد الامكنة والوصول للنساء للأطفال لتمكينهم نفسيا أوقفني مدير الجلسة بحجة انتهاء الوقت هذا الموقف حفز نساء الكويت والإمارات وقطر الى عمل حملة لإطلاق قافلة تراحموا مبادرة للعمل من خلال تلك الأمهات وأمهات العراق لاحلال ثقافة الاعتدال والتسامح واشاعة ثقافة الانسانية بعيدا عن التعصب للهويات الفرعية
سالوني نجمع لكم المال ؟ أجبت
لا نحتاج المال نحتاج التضامن بالذهاب الى هناك وزيارة المخيمات والالتقاء بالناس حيث الطفل في عامرية الفلوجة وجسر بزيبز حينما سألته ماذا تريد ودرجة الحرارة تجاوزت الخمسين ، اجاب :- ست نريد كتب حتى نقرا
اذا القافلة ستكون قافلة محبة من نساء ايضا خسرت مثل نساء الكويت اثناء احتلالنا لهم
نعم نغفر ولن ننسى لكي نتعلم من تلك الجروح والتجارب المؤلمة للخسارات
ستكون معنا ا مهات العراق اللواتي خسرن وتحملن ما لا تتحمله نساء الكون

هذا باختصار اهم ما دار هناك في دبي اثناء موتمر أهميته ليس في التكريم الرمزي بل في هذا اللقاء الذي عرف الآخرين بعراق غير
العراق المطروح في سوق الاعلام وهذا ما تسعى صوتنا لتقديمه للعالم

On the 07/10/2016, Amal’s human rights work within the Arab world and her tireless campaigning for equality, justice and tolerance was recognized by the Arab Women’s Council at an awards ceremony in Dubai.

In a post on her Facebook page, Amal said:

بلدي الذي منحني كل شيء
هو من جعلني بجراحه ان أكون قوية إربي الامل رغم خناجر غدر الأصدقاء والغرباء

Amal is an Iraqi poet, activist and human rights lawyer. She is the founder and CEO of the Arab Human Rights Academy, an NGO based in London andSoutuna.com, an online TV station based in Iraq. Both of these organizations have human rights, compassion and peace as their core values. She has additionally published a number of poetic works and films, including the award-winning Hagar Before the Occupation, Hagar After the Occupation and is a celebrated cultural figure who has forged important links between the East and the West, most notably with the Nobel Prize-winning author and poet Guenter Grass.

A native of Iraq, Amal Al Jubouri published her first book of poetry, Wine from Wounds, at 19 years old. Against social conventions she published this collection privately and without the support of the Hussein regime—an approach continued throughout her career and one that is emblematic of the independence for which she has come to be known.

She studied English literature at the University of Baghdad and published widely. Her translations of great authors were published in Arabic daily newspapers throughout the region, as well as Dialogue Magazine (Paris, France). She also became a freelance journalist.

In 1989 she founded her publishing house Al Masar (now East West Diwan), translating international literature into Arabic and published the first Arabic anthology of contemporary English poetry, as well as translations of Samuel Beckett, Nikos Kazantzakis and others. In 1997 Al Jubouri took political asylum with her daughter in Munich, Germany where she published her third poetry collection, This Body is Yours, Do Not Fear for My Sake and won the Silver Prize in aesthetics from the Beirut Book Fair. She went on to publish more poetry collections and translations. Her exile made her a major force for literary activism between the Middle East and the West. In 2000 she organized the first Arabic-German poetry conference in Yemen, and was subsequently invited to be the Cultural Counselor for the Yemeni government, a role she continued for 11 years while living in Berlin. She also founded the only Arabic-German poetry magazine, Diwan. In 2000, the Ba’ath Party published in Babel and Al Zawraa a register of the regime’s enemies and her name was first on the list. Still, in 2001 she founded the East West Diwan Cultural Foundation for Arabic and German culture and, in 2002, organized an Arabic-German literary conference in Yemen that included the Nobel Prize winning writer Günter Grass, Mahmoud Darwish, and Adonis, among others.

In 2003 she was the first writer to return to Baghdad to establish the Iraqi branch office of the East West Diwan Cultural Foundation, as well as a German language school for orphaned girls. During this time she continued to publish poetry and co-produce the documentary films. Also in 2005, Al Jubouri founded the Diwan Poetry Prize, which is awarded to the best unpublished Arabic collection in each year. In 2007 Al Jubouri founded the Iraqi PEN in Damascus. Amal Al Jubouri’s poems have been translated into ten different languages.

She has since then worked in Iraq and London on promoting human rights and protecting minorities and vulnerable people, and continue to publish poetry. She is also currently working on her memoir.

Al-Jubouri is also a senior citizen journalism trainer and post- conflict trauma healer

Recently she is giving talk and Lectures at distinguished universities such as Goerge Town , Goerge Mason , Goerge Washington, Chicago university .
